Farba hrá ústrednú úlohu v celej Nitschovej tvorbe. Predstavuje zmyslovú a obrazovú hodnotu, ktorej funkciu a účinok v danom diele netreba podceňovať. Jeho symbolické, zmyselné, expresívne a asociatívne kvality sú veľkým prínosom pre špecifický umelecký koncept. Na konci 60. rokov Nitsch navrhol svoju prvú teóriu farieb pre Divadlo Orgií a mystérií. Skúmal vzájomné pôsobenie farieb v jednotlivých farebných škálach, k nuansám priradil určité akustické zvuky. Ako vždy v jeho tvorbe nechýbajú základné parametre, koncepty, návody a cvičenia – akási dramatická kompozícia definujúca stratégiu a rádius pôsobenia umeleckej činnosti. V rámci týchto smerníc existuje sloboda pracovať podľa zmyslov a inštinktov a dielo by malo byť vnímané synesteticky. Farby môžu byť interpretované ako hudobné zvuky, tvary, vône alebo chute, alebo môžu tvoriť spoločnú jednotu zmyslových vnemov.

Colour plays a central role in all of Nitsch’s work. It represents a sensory and pictorial value, the function and effect of which in any given work is not to be underestimated. Its symbolic, sensual, expressive and associative qualities are of great service to the specific artistic concept. At the end of the 60s, Nitsch designed his first colour theory for the O.M. Theatre. He examined the interaction of the colours in individual colour scales, and assigned certain acoustic sounds to the nuances. As always in his work, there are basic parameters, concepts, instructions and exercises – a kind of dramatic composition defining the strategy and radius of operation of the artistic activity. Within these guidelines, there is freedom to operate according to senses and instinct, and the work should be perceived synaesthetically. The colours can be interpreted as musical sounds, shapes, smells or tastes, or they can form a joint unity of sensory perceptions.
